According to the NHTSA, the leading cause of death among children between the ages of 3 and 14 years old is car accidents. As reported by the administration, 23% of the children fatally injured in car accidents in the year 2008 were not restrained and for children were injured, but not fatally, the percentage was even higher: 46%.
The reality is that research indicates that the proper use of child safety seats can reduce the cases of fatal injury by as much as 71% for infants under a year old and by 54% for toddlers between the ages of 1 year and 4 years old.
